HE SAID I'M OUT FOR 8YR'S N $35MILL

With college basketball’s Final Four finally fortified, attention shifts to the other 343 programs in NCAA Division I, many of which have already begun waiting ’til next year. One program not satisfied with simply waiting was Kentucky, who could barely get Billy Gillispie out the door before putting together a plan to make a home-run hire. Specifically, that plan was a large sack of cash. They called Florida’s Billy Donovan and wafted the smell of old, sweaty money through the phone. Donovan, who already is believed to be the highest-paid coach in the college game, said no.

Memphis’ John Calipari was something of a media darling heading into this tournament–he’s such a great recruiter, he’s really put that program on the map, Memphis would have been a 1-seed had they played in the Big East–such that it almost seemed that ESPN was putting together a pitch for Calipari for anyone who was listening. Kentucky was listening, and their pile of money has seemingly found a home. How much money it actually is depends on who you ask, but it’s assumed that whatever Calipari receives will supplant Donovan as the best earner in his sport.

From CollegeHoopsJournal:

Update, 3:43 p.m. ET: News is now starting to permeate that Memphis has asked permission to speak with Missouri’s Mike Anderson. That’s as much of a surrender outside of a direct quote from anyone that you could ask for right now.

Update: 6:35 p.m. ET: WHAS has reported that Calipari has accepted the job at Kentucky. WLEX has confirmed that report. It’s all over but the press conference.

BABY SPEAKS ABOUT WEEY BEING THE BEST

“He can rap, he can sing, he’s just an artist,” he says. “I don’t think no one will ever be greater [than Wayne] because I don’t think no one puts in the time or the quality. If someone do come along, can you imagine what he’ll have to do? He got to put out on thousand mixtapes, do a thousand records [and] sell 100 million records. 2Pac, Jay-Z and Biggie didn’t get to the shit Wayne’s done.”

KELLY ROWLAND NO LONGER SOLO ARTIST UNDER COLUMBIA

Grammy-winning R&B/pop singer Kelly Rowland will no longer be recording with Columbia Records as a solo artist, it was officially announced Tuesday by the label.

Rowland, a founding member of Destiny’s Child, the world’s top-selling female group, will continue her relationship with Columbia Records in her ongoing role in the iconic ensemble.

“Because Columbia Records has been my home base as an artist for more than a decade, the decision to move out on my own required a lot of soul-searching. As a solo artist, I felt the need to explore new directions, new challenges, and new freedoms outside my comfort zone and my friends and family at Columbia have been incredibly understanding about my evolution. I want to thank everyone at Columbia for the love and support they’ve shown and I will never forget how many good times we’ve had over the years.”

Lupe Fiasco New Album Now Called, “We Are Lasers”

Lupe Fiasco’s next album will be called, “We Are Lasers.” I’ve been following him on Twitter for a few days and he randomly speaks on the album amongst other things. Lupe states, “We Are Lasers…comes from some repressed highschool outcast shit…blended amidst And He Gets The Girl ambitions.” Lupe also says:
still aiming for two this year though, not too many hip-hoppers on this one…got a slot for Bun B though…contemplating Cudi.” There has been no talk of a first single so don’t expect the album to drop anytime soon.

Damon Dash has been slapped with divorce papers by wife Rachel Roy

Roc-A-Fella Records and Rocawear co-founder Damon Dash has been slapped with divorce papers by wife Rachel Roy, the Daily News has learned. The stunning fashion designer piled onto Dash’s already sizable stack of lawsuits when she filed for divorce from her husband of four years this month in Manhattan Supreme Court. Ed Hayes, a lawyer for Roy, declined comment, and a Dash spokeswoman did not return calls or e-mails. An electronic record of the case says the divorce is for “nonmonetary relief” and should be resolved by February.

Kim Kardashian Covers The April/May Issue of Complex!

kimkardashiancover_2009
In case you couldn’t tell from the groundbreaking Kanye West cover story we unveiled yesterday, Complex’s April/May 2009 issue is gonna be a doozy. For the issue’s other cover, we knew we had to get a woman who could go toe-to-toe with ’Ye’s larger-than-life celebrity. Who else but our girl Kim?

See, Complex was the first magazine to feature Kim Kardashian on a cover back in 2007, just before she blew up. And now that she’s America’s Sweetheart, we had to reunite and do something different for our annual Green Issue. Instead of the same old cookie cutter sexy shoot, we decided to go conceptual—shooting Kim in front of a series of projected backgrounds that highlight our planet’s environmental plight. Think of it as curves with a cause.

Fresh off the heels of the viral video teaser she released a couple weeks ago is Keri Hilson’s newest video, “Knock You Down” featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo.

The song was written by N.A.R.S./JIVE recording artist Kevin Cossom and produced by Danja.

Love this video. IMO, it is a very good look for Ms. Hilson. Her debut album, IN A PERFECT WORLD…, is in stores tomorrow. Peep the video above.
